About Us

The Gathering is designed to provide the person who has dementia a chance to be in community with new friends in an enjoyable and loving atmosphere. Activities are designed to keep the participants busy in meaningful and dignified ways. The Gathering is intended to offer the caregiver four hours a week of time to run errands, go to appointments, visit with friends, explore next steps or just go home to a quiet house.

The steps for enrollment are found on the home page of this website, which offers the best way to achieve success for a good fit and to help the participant feel welcome and comfortable as they first join us. We also provide the volunteer staff with details about the participant’s history, family life, hobbies and pastimes. This history helps us connect with the participant and plan activities that are enjoyable.

Our trained volunteers keep the participants company, guide them when needed, and help keep them safe. We strive to have a minimum of 1 volunteer to 2 participants at all times. All participants must be living at home with a family member, be ambulatory, independent using the restroom, able to eat/chew/swallow and must still be verbal.

The Gathering meets on Wednesdays from 9:30am-1:30pm. It offers varied activities, including socializing, indoor sports, art, music therapy, games, chair exercise and special guest entertainment. During the last hour we eat a nutritious lunch, lovingly prepared by our Kitchen Krew, and then we play bingo! The Gathering is free to attend and offered as a gift to the community by Westlake Hills Presbyterian Church. If you are able, we do accept donations, which allows us to make our program extra engaging. It is open to people of all religious backgrounds.
